- Book in Advance:
I’ve always tried to book as far in advance as possible to get the best discounts on hotels, flights and activities. I recommend researching your destination ahead of time, becoming familiar with the locations of the closest taxi ranks, bus stops and train stations.

You might believe hostels are not safe because you’ll be sharing a room with strangers, but many friends from all over the world are made by staying in hostels. The savings are significant, but so is the experience of meeting others and sharing experiences with new friends. As a solo traveler, I have stayed in many hostels and met some amazing people, who I am still in touch with online to this day. My experience in hostels has been that they are completely safe. Typically you can request a female-only dorm. Hostels often organize their own walking tours and bar crawls. Traveling alone you will never want to find that your phone has died. You want to leave the hotel or hostel without having to worry about your phone life. Pack a portable charger, or even two. You won’t need to worry about your phone, and you will probably be using it more than usual as you take lots of photographs and videos.
- Take Public Transportation
I’ve never felt unsafe when taking public transportation, but it’s important to be aware of your surroundings and to not put yourself in a vulnerable situation. If you are taking the metro, put your bag in front of you and hold onto it also If you are planning on taking the bus in Barcelona, bring a debit card they do not accept cash.
